#41: Birthdays Are a Good Thing

Tonight we celebrated Grandma Page's birthday. We had such a wonderful time! We started out with a wine and cheese time at some friends of Grandma's, Debbie and Maria. These two ladies are sweeter than sweet tea (and boy is it good down here). It was so great meeting all of her friends and I enjoyed every minute of it. Then we headed over to Grandma's church for a sit down dinner. As we entered the room, we were met with a hand drawn portrait done by J on a white board, no less.

J's mom had worked for a long time on a slideshow. It featured pictures of Grandma when she was a little girl, and growing up, graduating high school and college. It also included wedding pictures and J's grandparents wedding announcement in the local newspaper. Then it included pictures of the family over the years, from when J's parents got married, his sister was born, he was born and through their childhoods up until just yesterday when J and I took a picture with Grandma at Jack in the Box. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the slideshow. What a wonderful life Grandma has had thus far. So many amazing stories and memories. I have gotten to spend a considerable amount of time with Grandma over the past couple days and have thoroughly enjoyed her stories and her laugh and her wisdom. There is much to be learned from a woman who has lived 80 years (don't kill me for telling them your age, Grandma! It's something to be incredibly proud of!!).

We enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by J's Uncle Randy. He is an uh-mazing, incredibly talented chef. He prepared such a fantastic dinner, beginning with homemade rolls from a recipe from J's great grandmother. We then moved on to garlic studded pork loin with roasted vegetables and wilted garlic baby spinach. We finished it off with a rousing rendition of happy birthday and a delicious vanilla cake.

It was such a fun night and it was a delight to celebrate the birthday of a woman is very dear to my heart. Happy Birthday Grandma. I love you!
